The first Ford Taurus was a light, fiberglass vehicle that was a major milestone for the Ford company and that swayed many other automakers to rethink automobile design. Between 1986 and 2007, Ford constructed almost eight million models. It was ,at that time, (and still is) the fifth best- selling North American car in Ford's history, with only the powerful F-150, the subcompact Escort, the always-black Model T, and the sporty Mustang pinned as selling more units. The 90s were perhaps the most important decade for the Ford Taurus. In the mid-90s, the popular Taurus was named the best-selling vehicle in the United States for four years in a row. The Taurus also went through major body styling updates in the 1990s.
