The Life & Times of the Ford Taurus: From Then to Now

The first Ford Taurus was a light, fiberglass vehicle that was a major milestone for the Ford company and that swayed many other automakers to rethink automobile design. Between 1986 and 2007, Ford constructed almost eight million models. It was ,at that time, (and still is) the fifth best- selling North American car in Ford's history, with only the powerful F-150, the subcompact Escort, the always-black Model T, and the sporty Mustang pinned as selling more units. The 90s were perhaps the most important decade for the Ford Taurus. In the mid-90s, the popular Taurus was named the best-selling vehicle in the United States for four years in a row. The Taurus also went through major body styling updates in the 1990s.

In 2007, Ford decided to discontinue the aging Taurus in 2007 to better focus on SUV sales. It was supplanted by the full-size Five Hundred and midsize Fusion sedans. A new sports-wagon, the Freestyle crossover, was also presented, which was later renamed 'Taurus X' due to the overwhelming sadness at the death of the Taurus. It's true; fans of the Taurus really wanted the vehicle back. These wishes were answered in late 2009, when Ford announced a 2010 Taurus. The 2011 and new 2012 Taurus have followed, and fans are as happy as kids in a candy store.

After making a successful return to Spradley Barr Ft. Collins and other Ford dealers across the country (and the world!), the Taurus continues to be a favorite in the brand's lineup.
